THE ROLE:
The General Construction Tutor – SEN Learners will plan and deliver engaging, hands-on construction training sessions and classroom activities for learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This role focuses on providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters both construction skills and essential life and employability skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Plan, deliver, and adapt high-quality, differentiated lessons in general construction (e.g., carpentry, bricklaying, plastering, painting & decorating) aligned with the curriculum specification.
· Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of SEN learners.
· Maintain an organised, inclusive, and safe learning environment in both classroom and workshop settings, ensuring all tools, materials, and spaces are clean and hazard-free.
· Demonstrate trade-specific skills and assess learners’ practical competencies.
· Monitor learner attendance and progress, maintaining accurate records and flagging concerns to senior management.
· Provide feedback, guidance, and individual support to help learners achieve their goals and develop confidence, independence, and employability.
· Prepare teaching materials and resources, order supplies for End Point Assessments (EPAs), and oversee stock management.
· Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge and complete relevant CPD to inform teaching and support learner development.
· Promote and model positive behaviour, supporting learners’ emotional and social development.
· Support learners in developing employability skills and confidence.
· Liaise with SEN staff, external agencies, employers, and other stakeholders to ensure individual learning needs and progression goals are met.
· Ensure all actions are in line with company health and safety regulations, policies and procedures, and company values.
· Participate in staff training, team meetings, and professional development activities.
· Attend company events such as open days, support team meetings and training activities.
· Be adaptable and willing to cover sessions in the absence of other tutors.
· Uphold a commitment to the company’s appraisal process and work collaboratively to achieve shared goals and continuous improvement.
· Demonstrate awareness of Special Educational Needs (SEN), raising concerns as necessary to the appropriate internal contacts.
OTHER GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Participate in training to enhance skills and knowledge.
· To actively and positively contribute to the appraisal process and to follow up agreed actions
