The APAC General Counsel is part of the Group Legal Leadership Team and reports into the Chief Legal Officer. The Group Legal, Compliance and Audit team is responsible for legal and regulatory, ethics & compliance, risk management and internal audit, and includes approximately 35 team members globally. The APAC General Counsel is a key business partner and advisor to the Executive Vice President, APAC and a member of the APAC Leadership Team. The APAC General Counsel manages a team of lawyers across Australia, Asia and India and advises the business on a range of legal issues affecting Sinch’s subsidiaries operating across APAC. The APAC General Counsel works closely with colleagues from various business lines including Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, Product and Technology. This role requires a highly experienced General Counsel who has operated at an executive level and has a demonstrated capability to effectively lead a varied and challenging portfolio in a large, regulated global listed business. Key Responsibilities include: Build and sustain a highly effective and collaborative APAC based legal team to deliver high quality legal advice in a timely manner. Act as the primary point of contact for the APAC EVP and be part of the APAC Leadership Team advising on legal strategies, opportunities and risks. Negotiate complex customer and partner contracts. Advise on changes in go-to-market models in the business and changes in laws or regulations. Manage external counsel, legal proceedings and represent the company in front of regulators. Provide APAC legal advice on telecommunications regulatory and compliance matters. Provide support for centralised Group Legal projects relating to a variety of matters including privacy, ethics & compliance, mergers & acquisitions, AI, legal operations, and product development. Develop and deliver training to a variety of business stakeholders. Act as a role model in the use of Legal AI. To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes: Degree in law with current practising certificate as applicable in the APAC region. Extensive post-qualification legal experience, a substantial portion of which should be in the APAC region. Managing an international team working across multiple locations and time zones. General corporate commercial experience in contract law and legal compliance including competition, privacy and consumer protection laws. Sound commercial and solution-orientated attitude towards legal and compliance issues and ability to influence through clear and concise written and verbal communication. Specialist expertise in telecommunications. Experience liaising with regulators and facilitating cross-functional input into regulatory investigations and requests. Experience leading cross-functional projects and contributing to multi-jurisdictional advice. Experience collaborating with the business and supporting stakeholders, local management teams, regional and global stakeholders. Proven ability to influence and deliver outcomes in a global organisation. Proficiency in Legal AI tools and rolling out programs in that area.
