Company Description The GES- Electrical will take on the responsibility to assist with compliance elated to regulatory stipulations, reducing operational risk and injury. You will take on the responsibility for competence management and authorisation of all electricians and will be involved in electrical engineering projects. People. Process. Performance. It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets. Job Description You will take on the responsibility to ensure safe work practices, a safe working environment and ensure that legal requirements and group working standards and policies related to Electrical Engineering are implemented and are adhered to. You will also be required to conduct equipment failure analysis, root cause analysis, best practices, and repair strategies to ensure optimal use. More of your responsibilities will include: • Conducting regular audits on the operations or new projects, identity potential risk and make recommendations • Establishing causes of failure and participating in incident/ equipment failure investigations and provide recommendations and action plans • You will effectively manage the projects of electrical engineering ensuring best practices, research and knowledge shares as well as commissioning the projects and planning for contingencies • Monitoring the progress and costs of the project and report regularly on the variances and ensure that capital applications are submitted on time and assist the operations with capital applications where necessary as well as managing the contractors • Engagement with Eskom regarding power shuts related to dragline walks and ensuring compliance to all electrical standards and procedures • Responsible for equipment inspections on electrical equipment received from OEM / repairers / suppliers to ensure compliance with required standards • Assist and advice on equipment maintenance on equipment ensuring AACSA standards and procedures are followed, as well as ensuring equipment maintained in workshops are carried out as per the OEM requirement and ARP 0108 • Providing full support to the team and keeping abreast with new technologies in Electrical engineering Qualifications Technical Electrical Qualification: Minimum N4 (NQF 5) Completion of a Medium Voltage course Completion of a Light Voltage course Completion of a DRA protection course Driver’s License Experience • In-depth electrical engineering experience within the coal mining industry • Underground and opencast electrical experience crucial • Experience as an electrical GES in the mining industry would be preferable Additional Information • Knowledge of Relevant Legislation including (Mine Health and Safety Act/ Minerals and Energy Act/Environmental Legislation) • An in-depth knowledge of technical engineering aspects such as outside equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS) • A good working knowledge and understanding of machinery and equipment used in the Mining Industry • Aware of best practices and new technologies relating to Engineering Principles and Processes What we offer When you join Thungela, you can expect to enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package.
