Company Description The General Engineering Superintendent will take on the responsibility to assist with compliance elated to regulatory stipulations, reducing operational risk and injury. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets Job Description The role is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of plans to manage Thungela Resources Engineering Assets, Resources & Infrastructure – availability of machinery and equipment and managing resources and people to achieve planned production targets More of your responsibilities will include: Maintain safe work practices and a safe working environment by ensuring that legal requirements and group working standards and policies related to engineering are implemented and followed on the Operations and Projects Optimise planned maintenance schedules of machinery and equipment ensuring that equipment is effectively maintained Research and implement best practice systems with respect to cost, maintenance, safety and people management Effective People Management, ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed to human capacity and capability Financial budgeting and management of departmental costs Manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, understand and deliver on their operational needs, and identify and resolve issues timeously Qualifications Relevant Trade Test in Mechanical Engineering (N4) Driver’s License Experience In-depth engineering experience within the coal mining industry Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Foreman Underground coal mining experience is crucial Experience in management of engineering teams Additional Information Knowledge of Relevant Legislation including (Mine Health and Safety Act/ Minerals and Energy Act/Environmental Legislation) An in-depth knowledge of technical engineering aspects such as outside equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS) A good working knowledge and understanding of machinery and equipment used in the Mining Industry Aware of best practices and new technologies relating to Engineering Principles and Processes What we offer When you join Thungela, you can expect to enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package.
