OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced and driven General Foreman to lead a large site team (circa 40 operatives) on a major Groundworks, Drainage, and Civils project. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving productivity, ensuring works are carried out to programme, maintaining quality, and upholding the highest standards of Health & Safety.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience as a Foreman in groundworks, civils, and drainage projects (deep drainage experience essential).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and direct large teams.
  • Solid understanding of road construction techniques and standards.
  • Excellent working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and setting-out principles.
  • Sound understanding of H&S legislation and best practice.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in client interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CSCS Gold/Black Card
  • SSSTS or SMSTS
  • First Aid at Work
    This is an immediate requirement; the successful candidate will need to undergo a medical and take part in regular drugs & alcohol testing.
    Job Types: Full-time, Temporary, Fixed term contract, Temp to perm
    Contract length: 4 months
    Pay: £300.00-£350.00 per day

Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and motivate site gangs to deliver works proactively and productively in line with the project programme.
  • Supervise deep drainage works, road construction, and other civils activities to ensure technical and quality standards are met.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings and specifications with a strong focus on accuracy.
  • Monitor progress against programme, identifying and resolving potential delays.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Health & Safety requirements and site-specific method statements / risk assessments.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication between site teams, subcontractors, and management.
  • Attend and contribute to regular internal progress meetings and client-facing meetings.
  • Coordinate plant, materials, and resources to maintain steady workflow.
  • Support the development of less experienced operatives and encourage a positive, safe, and productive site culture.
