Description The General Foreman is responsible for managing all production operations and production personnel for heavy steel fabrication and oversees all aspects of projects from beginning to end. This position will collaborate closely with the Director of Operations, other Fabrication Project Managers and Fabrication Supervisors. Duties include but are not limited to: Must possess excellent leadership abilities. Coordinates all activities concerned with Steel Fabrication detailed drawings/design and processing of company components/products. Responsible for initiating, planning, executing, managing multiple projects concurrently. Develops detailed plans and schedules. Communicate and follow-up project milestones and goals, by implementing and maintaining project schedules through design-assist, engineering, detailing, procurement, fabrication, and installation timelines to meet contractual requirements. Manage Fabrication Supervisors and employees in work activities and tasks. Places material purchase orders, and monitors project metrics for significant deviations in quality, cost, or schedule. Responsible for continual and effective Fabrication communications, time management & coordination with customer and co-workers. Able to estimate material, time & labor requirements, and negotiate contracts. Responsible for project scheduling, forward pricing, and estimate change orders. Know and understand bid and scope of work requirements. Maintain all contractual terms and obligations for projects assigned. Responsible for all project change orders. Responsible for project budgets and job % complete budgets. Read and interpret design drawings, shop drawings, details and installation drawings and contracts. Working knowledge of welding methods, procedures, quality control, AISC and AWS Codes. Wide latitude in determining creative solutions to strategic and operational needs. A high proficiency level in specific job-related skills is required. Ensure compliance with Quality procedures and documents. Work with other company departments to ensure workflow to all areas. Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company. Will be required to use sound judgment when dealing with employee productivity, attendance, and other issues. May be responsible for employee timekeeping. Will be required to follow and enforce company policies and quality assurance procedures. Coordinate with Safety Manager to ensure project safety plan complies with contractual requirements; high risk activities are identified and mitigated. Must exhibit excellent communication skills, time management & organizational skills. Supervision: Reports to the Director of Operations Education: May possess a bachelor’s degree and/or 5 -7 plus years in heavy structural steel manufacturing, 5 plus years in a management position preferred. Steel fabrication, Ship repair, vessel construction and/or repair operations experience a plus.
