GENERAL LABORER JOB VACANCY #: JV 2026-9 THE POSITION OF: General Laborer DEPARTMENT/DIVISION OF: Public Works/Trash FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt CLASSIFICATION: N/A SCHEDULE: Part-Time SALARY: $15/HR POSTING DATE: March 6, 2026 Qualified, interested candidates must submit an application and current resume. For questions email: gissell.vargas@readingpa.gov [gissell.vargas@readingpa.gov] POSITION SUMMARY: The Laborer must be able to work independently or on a crew in both indoor and outdoor environments, completing tasks as directed. This is a part-time position working about twenty-eight (28) hours per week, between Monday and Friday. The actual scheduling will be determined once the candidate is hired. Typical duties may include but not limited to: * Custodial work including litter pick up and trash removal * Performs clean-ups and general maintenance of City properties * May paint as required * Pick up dead animals as needed * Pressure washing and painting for graffiti removal. * Maintain daily records of pick ups * Safely use power equipment including chain saws, grass and hedge trimmers, and pole saws. * Assist other depts. As needed * Perform miscellaneous tasks as directed by management MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * High school graduate or GED required * Able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds * Valid PA “Class C” driver’s license required * Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions
