POSITION SUMMARY

The General Maintenance and Repair Technician (GMRT) Senior position will function as a Steam Plant Operator (SPO) Trainee. The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training and assist the Steam Plant Operators with performing their work. The SPO Trainee will have the opportunity to advance to full Operator duties upon completion of proper time, training and testing.
The Steam Plant Operator (SPO)/ Boiler Plant Operator positions are responsible for operating and maintaining the steam plant operation, steam piping, auxiliary equipment, basic electricity, basic HVAC operations, HVAC equipment, engineered systems, and building operations. The SPO positions operate the Building Automation Computer Systems in order to monitor and control building temperatures, lights, and equipment status. The SPO identifies and corrects problems to prevent more serious, complex issues in the service and maintenance of the boilers. These positions provide 24/7/365 building operational coverage for the Capital Complex Campus, Cedar Crest, and Printing.

The GMRT Senior SPO Trainee will receive training in the primary areas below by assisting the SPO employees with their work:

  • The Steam Plant Operator position provides building operational coverage for the State Office buildings located in the Capitol Complex campus, Cedar Crest, and Printing. These positions are responsible for operating and maintaining the steam plant operation, steam piping, auxiliary equipment, basic electricity, basic HVAC operations, HVAC equipment, engineered systems, and building operations.
  • The Steam Plant Operator position operates the Building Automation Computer Systems in order to monitor and control building temperatures, lights, and equipment status. These positions identify and correct problems to prevent more serious, complex issues in the service and maintenance of the boilers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of experience in two or more building trades or mechanical building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
