As we continue to expand our impact across critical federal programs, we are seeking a skilled General Maintenance Mechanic (Electrical) to support our team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, MD.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a qualified Journeyman Electrician to support the NIH Division of Facilities Operations & Maintenance (DFOM). This role is responsible for performing lamping, lighting maintenance, and egress/emergency lighting inspections across a complex healthcare and research environment. The ideal candidate will be safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced in troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems in institutional settings.
This is a full-time, FTE-based role under a firm-fixed-price contract, offering predictable hours, job stability, and the opportunity to support vital public health infrastructure.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent state-recognized certification
  • 3–5 years of experience in commercial or institutional electrical maintenance
  • Ability to perform lighting repair, minor electrical troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance inspections
  • Familiarity with work order tracking systems (Nuvolo or other IWMS preferred)
  • OSHA 10-hour certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
  • Ability to pass NIH badging process and Public Trust background check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in hospital, research, or large government facilities
  • Knowledge of EM 385-1-1 safety regulations and electrical LOTO procedures
  • Familiarity with egress and emergency lighting systems
  • OSHA 30, USACE QCM, or EM 385-1-1 certification
  • Prior experience contributing to or following site-specific safety plans

Responsibilities
  • Respond to lighting and electrical work orders, including lamp and ballast replacement
  • Troubleshoot lighting and minor electrical issues
  • Perform lighting maintenance in parking lots, garages, building exteriors, and other campus areas
  • Conduct monthly ITM (Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance) for 3,600+ Clinical Center egress/emergency lights
  • Conduct annual ITM for non-Clinical Center egress lighting
  • Document work order status and completion (with photos) in IWMS (Nuvolo)
  • Identify out-of-scope issues (e.g., major electrical faults) and escalate to Project Manager
  • Follow all NIH safety protocols, including electrical lockout/tagout and PPE use
