Description

The General Maintenance Worker plays a crucial role in supporting Crossroads for Women (CFW) in its mission to help women and children transition from crisis to empowerment through safe housing, education, and one-on-one support. This is a part-time (20-30 hours per week) position that has an hourly wage of $21 per hour and is for a 6-month contract with the possibility of an extension. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Maintenance Coordinator ensures that all of Crossroads’ properties and vehicles are well-maintained and manages goods and services at the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, oversee, and perform regular building maintenance and repairs, including light tasks like painting, patching walls, hanging frames, clearing drains, and changing tires.
  • Manage third-party service providers for cleaning, snow plowing, lawn care, routine vehicle maintenance, and major contracting projects.
  • Respond to tenant inquiries and resolve issues as required
  • Complete donation pickups and weekly grocery orders
  • Contribute to the contractor logbooks, plan preventative maintenance, and support capital asset budget planning.
  • Perform other supportive tasks related to Crossroads for Women’s houses, residents, and staff.

Qualifications

  • Education: Grade 12 diploma required; post-secondary training preferred.
  • Experience: 2+ years of related experience (property management, handyman or a similar role).
  • Technical Proficiency: Basic proficiency in Google Suite and web-based data management software.
  • Communication: Excellent written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills in English; bilingualism is an asset.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to maintain confidentiality, adhere to ethical standards, and uphold professional boundaries.
  • Organization: Highly organized, able to manage multiple demands concurrently under tight timelines.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Respectful of cultural differences, socio-economic status, and lifestyle diversity.
  • Compassion and Learning: Ability to work with compassion, understand social justice issues, and incorporate feminist, anti-racism, and anti-oppression frameworks.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, sit for extended periods, read from computer screens, and maintain office equipment.
  • Special Requirements/Training:
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector and criminal record check upon hire and maintained throughout employment
  • CPR and First Aid certification (employer-provided).
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Must work on-site and be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Knowledge of Relevant Laws: Familiar with applicable laws, regulations, and building codes.
