Fleet & Engineering Executive Opportunity General Manager Engineering (Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering Operations) Air Niugini Ltd is seeking a highly experienced, strategic, and results-driven aviation engineering executive to lead the airline’s Engineering & Maintenance Operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager Engineering is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, regulatory compliance, and performance oversight of all aircraft maintenance and engineering activities across the organisation. This critical executive role ensures the continued airworthiness, safety, reliability, and operational readiness of Air Niugini’s fleet while maintaining compliance with CASA PNG regulations, OEM standards, and international aviation best practices. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will: * Lead and oversee all aircraft maintenance and engineering operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely return of aircraft to service. * Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Manager Maintenance Control to establish engineering strategies, operational objectives, and performance targets. * Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with approved maintenance programs, OEM data, CASA PNG regulations, and company standards. * Manage engineering operational budgets, capital expenditure, maintenance planning, and resource allocation to support operational efficiency and cost control. * Provide leadership, development, and performance management for engineering and maintenance personnel. * Monitor scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities to minimise aircraft downtime and maximise operational reliability. * Oversee maintenance planning, technical support, tooling, facilities, parts provisioning, and engineering support systems. * Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory authorities, OEMs, maintenance contractors, suppliers, and operational stakeholders. * Ensure compliance with Safety Management Systems (SMS), Quality Management Systems (QMS), risk management, and corporate governance requirements. * Coordinate regulatory approvals, audits, exemptions, and compliance activities with CASA PNG and other aviation authorities. * Drive continuous improvement initiatives, productivity enhancement, and operational excellence throughout engineering operations. * Ensure all engineering facilities, personnel, procedures, technical records, and maintenance data comply with regulatory and operational requirements. Qualifications & Experience The ideal candidate will possess: * Compliance with the requirements of CASA PNG Civil Aviation Rule Part 145 Appendix A1. * Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Aviation Management, Business Management, or a related discipline. * Master of Business Administration (MBA) or postgraduate qualification highly desirable. * CASA PNG Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence or ICAO-recognised equivalent preferred. * Minimum 10 years’ experience within the aviation industry, including at least 5 years in a senior engineering leadership role. * Strong knowledge of CASA PNG Civil Aviation Rules Part 145 and international aviation regulatory standards. * Demonstrated experience managing airline engineering operations, aircraft maintenance programs, and continuing airworthiness functions. * Proven leadership capability with strong commercial acumen, financial literacy, and strategic planning skills. * Experience liaising with CASA PNG, CASA Australia, NZCAA, FAA, EASA, and other aviation regulatory authorities. * Strong understanding of aircraft maintenance systems, inspection procedures, engineering standards, and operational risk management. * Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership skills. * Must satisfy the “Fit and Proper Person” requirements under the PNG Civil Aviation Act 2000. *   What We Offer * An opportunity to lead engineering operations for Papua New Guinea’s national airline. * Executive leadership exposure within a dynamic and internationally connected aviation environment. * A strategic role influencing fleet safety, reliability, operational excellence, and engineering transformation. * The opportunity to work alongside experienced aviation professionals committed to safety, innovation, and operational excellence.
