We are seeking a successful General Manager for our Zero Waste Anaerobic Digestion Facility and Z-Best composting facility. to join our team to assist our organization in providing a successful work environment where our employees can be safe, thrive and give their personal best each day. This position is expected to work at 685 Los Esteros Rd. in San Jose and some job-related travel may be required.
Position Summary:
GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of General Manager to provide support to a couple facilities. This role’s main functions will be to manage the performance of day-to-day operations of the Anerobic Digestion and Composting facility. The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of facility management, including supervising/scheduling all personnel, the maintenance and operation of all facility equipment and processes, managing expenses and budgets, and is responsible for maintaining and ensure the overall safety of employees, contractors, and visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Class C License
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • 10+ years of solid waste experience
  • First Aid/CPR certifications preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILL:

  • Proficient in English (both verbally and in writing) is required.
  • Familiarity with Spanish is considered highly favorable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of composting methods, regulations, quality control and environmental considerations.
  • Able to handle odors, dust or other environmental or weather-associated events
  • Understand the Anerobic Digestion (AD) Facility controls and computer system.
  • Understand technology of AD bacterial fermentation process and biogas production.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information quickly.
  • Ability to keep information confidential and private.
  • Impeccable ethics.
  • Must have excellent people skills and be a natural collaborator and educator
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint.
  • Ability to work with C-level executives, management, employees, state and local government agencies, business entities and the larger community.
  • Strong understanding of business operations.
  • Ability to handle workload in crisis or high stress events with short time frames
Responsibilities

Functional Leadership

  • Translate priorities into initiatives and actions that will deliver performance objectives.
  • Ensure alignment, ownership, and accountability across field business units.

Operations:

  • Meets and works with all enforcement regulatory agencies.
  • Drive standardization to reduce acquisition and maintenance cost, and complexity.
  • Ensures AD and compost facility meet all Federal and State Regulations, OSHA, and local requirements.
  • Monitor budget and operating metrics while optimizing processes, procedures, and performance.
  • Maintain and update all environmental permits and necessary permits to operate.
  • Ensure all equipment, structures and infrastructure are maintained and monitors that they are repaired timely and efficiently.
  • Oversee feedstock management, process controls and compost quality.
  • Work with feedstock suppliers to ensure consistent production and material flow.
  • Communicate regularly with CALISO on kilowatt energy production.
  • Schedule all major maintenance on CHP engines and other technology throughout the facility.
  • Monitor gas sensors throughout the facility to ensure a safe work environment for employees.
  • Effectively manage relationships with all outside contractors through clear communication and setting realistic expectations

    Staff Management:

  • Responsible for the training and development skills of the workforce by providing proper guidance and coaching.

  • Determines workflow, staffing, monitors equipment operations and maintenance, all while fostering a work environment based on teamwork and cooperation.
  • Oversee personnel needs of the locations including selecting, coaching, disciplining, training employees and evaluating their performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings with the management team, staff and safety officer.
