Responsibilities

Australian Retirement Trust is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to take on the role of General Manager – Internal Audit. Reporting functionally to the Chair of the Audit & Finance Committee, this senior position is responsible for leading the internal audit function & managing co-sourced arrangements, ensuring robust governance, risk management, and internal controls. The role provides independent assurance to the Board and Executive, aligning internal audit activities with strategic objectives and regulatory obligations. It also fosters a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation using data analytics and emerging technologies.

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Provide independent assurance to the Board, Audit Committee, and Executive on governance, risk management, and internal controls.
  • Oversee comprehensive internal audit coverage across all major business areas, including investments, operations, technology, and compliance.
  • Develop and implement a strategic, risk-based internal audit plan aligned with ART’s priorities and regulatory obligations.
  • Report on internal audit outcomes, emerging risks, and control issues to senior leadership and governance committees.
  • Drive innovation in internal audit practices using AI, data analytics, and technology.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, external auditors, and regulators.
  • Collaborate with Risk and Compliance teams to align assurance activities across the organisation.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing internal audit team, manage co-sourced arrangements, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure internal audit practices remain current and effective.
  • Champion a strong risk culture across ART, promoting awareness and best practices.
