Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for a General Manager with convenience, retail operations and quick service restaurant (food) experience to manage and operate a retail location that encompasses an M&M Food Market, ON the RUN, and Bites by M&M all under one roof. REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of operational experience as an onsite Manager or Supervisor in a convenience store, restaurant or retail environment with profit and loss management responsibilities.
- Demonstrates excellent management and leadership skills (e.g., organized, able to set priorities, plan, make decisions), strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and team building skills.
- Strong business and financial acumen as well as business development capabilities.
- Ability to effectively train, coach, delegate, and lead a team.
- Ability to analyze and interpret information, identify issues and their causes, and use good judgment in making decisions to resolve issues.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in different forms and with different audiences.
- Proficient PC skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or similar) and is comfortable using MS Office software and a Point-of-Sale system, as well as reading/understanding reports, invoices, etc.
- Must have strong business-building, brand marketing and sales experience.
- Can meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting/carrying boxes weighing up to 40 lbs, standing for extended periods of time, and working within a freezer environment.

- Certificates & Licenses: Food Server certificate (e.g. ServSafe) and Food Safety Management certification may be required
Responsibilities:
Retail Operations Management:
- Oversees the major business and operational functions of the store including budgetary and inventory control.
- Implements various programs, policies, and promotions in support of organizational objectives.
- Achieves financial objectives by working with the Area Manager to identify store targets, labour costs, analyzing store expenses/variances, and initiate corrective actions as required.
- Develops, implements and enforces daily operating procedures to ensure store is clean, adequately stocked, and organized.
- Analyzes sales, checks deliveries, performs self-audits and works with vendors to ensure compliance of contracts.
- Properly cleans and maintains equipment and ready, high-margin products such as coffee, fountain drinks, etc.
- Maintains all records and documents as required for store operation, compliance and supervision of workforce.
- Adopts and always demonstrates Parkland/M&M Food Market’s philosophies and standards regarding store operations, branding, and personnel management.
- Utilize the point-of-sale system for sales and reporting in order to make effective decisions and monitor store results.
- Champion safety at all levels of the business demonstrating safe work and risk management practices, at all times.
- Has the capability to perform all duties of a Sales Associate, Supervisor and Assistant Manager. Fill in as needed, be available on call.
- Must meet all performance expectations and complete all duties as assigned.
People Management:
- Maintain a successful store team by effectively managing employees including supervising, overseeing scheduling, recruitment, retention, training and development, health and safety, compliance, and performance management.
- Training staff and enforcing all corporate policies to maintain brand compliance, as well as legislative and legal business requirements.
- Motivates, encourages and challenges all employees to ensure they deliver excellent customer service, following Company policies and statutory requirements and using sound workforce management practices.
Food Service:
- Prepare food following standard recipes and instructions while maintaining food safety standards.
- Operate a Merrychef and other equipment to prepare food.
Customer Service:
- Provide prompt and courteous service to all customers.
- Lead by example, selling all products within the M&M Food Market product lines. Complementary and suggestive selling techniques are extensively used.
- Adopts and always demonstrates Parkland/M&M Food Market’s philosophies and standards regarding store operations, branding, and personnel management.
