ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a 0.6 FTE (44 hours per fortnight) ongoing clinical appointment. The recruitment process will also be used to fill several fixed-term positions ranging from 3 to 6 months in duration (at 0.2 – 0.6 FTE) throughout 2026. The successful applicant(s) will work across Western Health sites, including one day per week at the Bacchus Marsh (BM) campus and two days per week at the Sunshine Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s (JKWC) campus. The expected commencement date is mid-November 2025.
Participation in the on-call roster is required for both General Paediatrics at JKWC and term neonates in the Level 2–3 Special Care Nursery at BM. Weekend on-call frequency is approximately 1:9 at JKWC and 1:8 at BM. Family-friendly accommodation is provided for on-call periods at Bacchus Marsh.
Western Health’s consultant clinics provide care for a broad range of complex general and developmental paediatric patients. Consultant paediatricians have regular clinics and also supervise registrars and HMOs in outpatient settings. The team benefits from support by several sub-specialty consultants, creating a unique generalist environment where a wide variety of conditions can be managed directly, often avoiding the need for referral.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide clinical care and support to paediatric inpatients and outpatients
  • Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, including registrars and HMOs
  • Completion of the RACP Supervisor Modules is required
  • Participate in regular on-call rosters across both JKWC and BM campuses
  • Engage in peer review and clinical discussions within a supportive team environment
  • Contribute to quality improvement, clinical safety, and audit activities
  • Support or coordinate the statewide Advanced Training recruitment program (VPAT), as part of Clinical Support Time
  • Foster a collaborative, family-centred approach to patient care
