ABOUT US

Our Health Partnership was set up by local GPs who are passionate about providing high quality primary care and using their time and skills effectively to benefit patients.
We are currently a GP partnership of 30 practices with 39 sites, serving around 280,000 patients in Birmingham, Wolverhampton, and Shropshire.
The partnership offers a shared administrative and management structure, cutting down the time doctors have to spend on admin. It opens up economies of scale to get best value from budgets and can access new funding streams that are only available to large GP organisations. It has the resources to develop innovative services and effective partnerships with local hospitals and care services.

Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

A General Practice Assistant (GPA) will support the GP(s) smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, therefore freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Patient facing Long-term condition clinics

  • Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
  • Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes. Supporting with QOF reviews.
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
  • Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
  • Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy.
  • Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
  • Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
  • Support the GP with immunisations/wound care.
  • Support with implementation of personalised care support plans.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To act at all times in an anti-discriminatory manner
  • To be able to plan and respond to workload according to operational priorities
  • To support the delivery of these functions across wider locality areas where necessary
  • To undertake any training required in order to maintain competency including mandatory training
  • To contribute to, and work within a safe working environment.
  • The GPA must at all times carry out duties and responsibilities with due regard to the GP Practice’s equal opportunity policies and procedures
  • The GPA is expected to take responsibility for self-development on a continuous basis, undertaking on-the-job training as required

AUTONOMY/SCOPE WITHIN ROLE

  • The post holder will be required to work within clearly defined organisational protocols, policies and procedures
