Join Our Team at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital – Genetic Counselor Assistant Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM | No weekends or holidays UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Genetic Counselor Assistant to support our expanding genetics program. In this vital role, you’ll work closely with physicians, genetic counselors, and laboratory personnel to ensure seamless clinical operations and patient care. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative and clinical preparation skills, especially those familiar with EMRs like Cerner and/or EPIC. Responsibilities: Perform necessary administrative and operational tasks guided by Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Assist in managing provider service account. Requires depth of knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures. Clinical preparation of orders for laboratory personnel. Perform literature searches in preparation for molecular variant review by laboratory personnel. Assist genetic counselors in preparing and organizing materials for genetics lectures/seminars. Enter patient data into computer software. Obtain insurance approval for patients. Create and upgrade patient pedigrees. Assist genetic counselors by communicating normal test results to patients and physicians by phone and/or in writing. Assist in writing reports and patient billing. Responsible for alerting the genetic counselor if the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient are necessary. Assist in the operation and maintenance of the genetic databases. Bachelor's degree in genetics/genetic counseling, biology, chemistry, or other science/ health-related field required. Experience with Microsoft Office products required. Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in order to interact with patients and families.
