We have an exciting opportunity for a client-focused GIS Technician to join our Municipal Department. This professional will support municipal clients and internal teams through GIS database development, asset management, mapping, analysis, and related geospatial work. Because our employees are typically involved in multiple projects at once — collaborating with project managers, engineers, planners, and municipal personnel — exceptional communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team are essential. Responsibilities Working with our clients and internal engineering teams, the GIS Technician may be responsible for some or all of the following: Prepare, collect, organize, manage, and maintain GIS databases for multiple municipal clients Process and translate asset information from engineering drawings, recorded documents, GPS data, and other sources through coordinate geometry and digitizing workflows Assist in developing standardized field data collection forms for municipal assets (stormwater infrastructure, stormwater control measures, sanitary sewer systems, traffic assets, etc.) Support departments with data analysis using queries, map production, spreadsheets, dashboards, and other outputs Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and quality control of GIS attribute data Configure and edit map pop-ups to display key asset information, including linking reports and photographs Coordinate with Operations Managers to create and maintain custom GIS applications and secure ArcGIS Online map viewers Provide training and technical support to staff and municipal clients using GIS platforms Assist with management of ESRI licenses, user permissions, credit usage, and document archiving Support project documentation, workflows, and implementation of GIS best practices Requirements Associate degree or higher in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Engineering Technology, or a related field Preferred: 1+ years of experience working with ESRI GIS applications, including data editing and spatial analysis Experience with AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Map Understanding of map projections and coordinate systems Working knowledge of Python scripting for GIS data creation and editing Experience with GPS background files and data dictionaries Ability to learn new software and GIS systems Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, workflows, and procedures Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication skills Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
