SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA or BS degree or higher required. Education should include GIS, Geoscience, or business information systems experience.
  • Advanced problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to execute complex data queries and utilize programming for automation purposes.
  • A minimum of FIVE years of experience in a technical role in the oil and gas industry (college degree may be considered in lieu of experience).
  • Experience with programming, GIS, and troubleshooting preferred.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets
  • Experience with geoscience data and applications required (e.g. Petra, Kingdom, Petrel)
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products.
  • Must be able to relate to other people and maintain good relationships with coworkers and peers.
  • A valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record required.
  • Must use discretion with confidential information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with competitor well and production data highly preferred.

Responsibilities

WHAT ROLE YOU WILL PLAY IN OUR TEAM

The Geoscience Analyst will join the Data Integration and Systems Management group within the Midland Basin Development team. This role involves overseeing subsurface data management, maintenance, application support, and data loading functions for well databases. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, with a robust background in Geoscience applications (Petra, Kingdom, Petrel), strong troubleshooting skills, and a proven track record of successfully completing projects.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Create, revise, and document workflows
  • Utilize SQL to query relational databases, views, and normalized schemas
  • Create, organize, and manipulate data in software applications such as Excel, Access, and Oracle SQL
  • Perform SQL queries to filter and integrate data from disparate sources, and execute table updates and ETL functions
  • Design, develop, and exectue automated workflows using technologies like Python, GIS, SQL, Spotfire, and Alteryx to minimize human error, standardize data, and ensure data integrity and governance
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and automation in existing workflows and processes
  • Conduct root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to address specific business questions and identify areas for improvement
  • Crosstrain in other Geo Analyst functions within the team for career development
  • Optimize and expand existing Geoscience systems
  • Assist Regional and Development Geoscientists in preparing technical data for interpretation, conducting analyses, performing routine computer processing, and creating final displays for formal presentations
