GEOSCIENCE INTERN

We are seeking a Geoscience Intern to work with our Hydrogeology and Geoenvironmental group based out of our Guelph office. This position can work in a hybrid working arrangement.
The successful applicant will be responsible for hydrogeological investigations to support multi-disciplinary projects in a variety of fields, including aggregate resource monitoring and compliance, construction dewatering assessments and permitting, wastewater treatment/water supply, and supporting Tatham’s municipal and land development projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience using ESRI ArcGIS to prepare geological mapping and complete spatial analyses for the Hydrogeology and Geoenvironmental team.

KEY POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree or diploma in Geoscience or Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geographic Information Systems or Civil Engineering Technology
  • Eligibility to register as a Professional Geoscientist or Engineer
  • Preferred to have working knowledge of Arc GIS
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D
  • Ability to work independently in both field and office environments with strong attention to detail and organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards including but not limited to the Ontario Water Resources Act, Provincial Water Quality Objectives, and/or O.Reg.153/04 (as amended)
  • Strong communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a team structure and/or independently
  • Competency with MS Office suite of applications
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel
Responsibilities
  • Design and preparation of maps drawings Arc GIS software and AutoCAD Civil 3D and
  • Responsible for the collection of hydrogeological data
  • Logging of soil and rock cores
  • Field technician duties as part of our surface and groundwater monitoring programs, including collection of samples, borehole permeability testing, Guelph Permeameter testing, and constant/stepped rate pump tests
  • Groundwater monitoring well installations
  • Groundwater and surface water level monitoring
  • Collection of surface water and groundwater samples
  • Collection of surface water flows, and reporting
  • Assist with report writing and project coordination
  • Assist with compiling and analyzing geological and hydrogeological data
