Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Geotechnical Department Manager to lead our geotechnical team, overseeing projects across industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. This role combines leadership, project oversight, client collaboration, and departmental management to ensure high-quality delivery, operational efficiency, and staff development.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Budgeting
- Develop long-term departmental goals, business plans, and annual capital budgets.
- Participate in strategic initiatives to support organizational growth and success.
Business Development & Networking
- Collaborate with Business Development to execute annual plans and expand the department’s network.
- Lead proposal development, defining project tasks, schedules, and resource requirements.
Department Leadership & Performance
- Manage day-to-day operations, monitor departmental chargeability, and ensure alignment with company objectives.
- Provide leadership in Geotechnical and CMT projects, conducting team meetings, evaluating progress, and maintaining client satisfaction.
- Coordinate with architects, civil and structural engineers, and other technical staff for successful project delivery.
Policy & Compliance Oversight
- Develop, maintain, and enforce department policies and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to QA/QC standards and implement best practices for efficiency and quality.
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work with IT and HR on technology needs, staffing, and employee relations.
- Coordinate with other department managers to optimize resources and project scheduling.
Financial Oversight
- Review and approve departmental invoices, including software and equipment costs.
- Manage project budgets, revenue generation, client billing, and collections.
Workplace Culture & Team Development
- Foster a positive and professional work environment.
- Mentor and develop staff to support ongoing professional growth.
Client & Contract Management
- Consult with clients on site requirements and project design.
- Manage contracts, change orders, and project scope to ensure client satisfaction.
Additional Responsibilities
- Lead special projects to support departmental or corporate goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned to advance department and company objectives.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Michigan P.E. License (or ability to obtain)
- 10+ years of civil/geotechnical engineering experience with increasing responsibility
- Proficiency in geotechnical engineering software and Microsoft Office
- Strong knowledge of Michigan codes, regulations, and site development standards
