POSITION SUMMARY:
The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) is an Acciona-Ghella general partnership to deliver a 5.7 km extension of the Millennium Line, from VCC-Clark Station to Broadway and Arbutus. Once complete, it will provide fast, frequent and convenient service to B.C.’s second largest jobs center, world-class health services, an emerging innovation and research hub, and growing residential communities.
The Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for managing geotechnical consultants during both design and construction phases, managing geotechnical instrumentation installation/monitoring, preparing/updating construction risk impact assessment reports, and providing ground-face mapping for an excavation and tunnel construction project. Working with the Design Team, the Geotechnical Engineer will provide review and inputs to design as related to the geotechnical engineering discipline.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Manage the work of several geotechnical consultants.
- Preparing and reporting/presenting technical reports for Senior Project Management.
- Prepare scopes of work and coordinate geotechnical field campaigns for site investigation programs and installation of geotechnical instrumentation.
- Review various project designs and provide comments from the geotechnical perspective.
- Review instrumentation data and provide advice to Senior Project Management regarding mitigation measures and risk management.
- Review construction Work Method Statements and Inspection and Testing Plans for consistency with geotechnical Engineer of Record requirements.
- Coordinate the preparation of construction risk impact assessment reports and updates to these reports as required throughout the course of construction.
- Provide geotechnical field reviews and recommendations in support of construction activities. This includes field review reports during the backfill of the structures and excavation proposals.
- Issue FCR / RFIs and submittals to the designers.
- Coordinate and manage the production of the post construction surveys and post construction reports.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional designation: P.Eng. in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (BC) preferred; Professional Geologists will also be considered.
- Registration: Must be registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years’ experience in heavy construction projects, ideally with expertise in slope/excavation stability and tunneling.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and thoroughness.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Organizational Skills: Well-developed ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
