Nau mai haere mai ki tā mātou whānau | Welcome to our Fulton Hogan Family We specialise in infrastructure construction with a strong focus on reinforced concrete. Our current projects span a wide range, including bridges, wharves, water treatment plants, storage tanks, and pipelines. We are looking for an experienced, practical and self‑sufficient Geotechnical Engineer to join our Civil Technical Team. You’ll provide technical advice, temporary works and alternative design solutions across a wide range of Fulton Hogan projects – from local council jobs through to major NZTA and water infrastructure projects. We’re a small, growing specialist team that supports civil, major projects and regional businesses across the country, so you can expect variety, travel, and plenty of complex ground engineering challenges. Undertake advanced analysis as required (e.g. 3D modelling skills preferred, slope stability, piling/retaining systems, groundwater models, etc.) Contribute to specification and design reviews with a contractor-aware, buildable and risk-focused perspective Spend time on site with delivery teams to understand conditions and construction constraints Work across multiple projects, switching quickly between different ground conditions and project types Good Work equals Good Benefits Company Vehicle KiwiSaver employer contributions Fuel discount card Parental leave top-up payment with additional return to work support Family scholarships Ongoing training and development, career growth and progression opportunities Great discounts at a wide range of retailers Medical insurance “an eligibility period applies” Life insurance At Fulton Hogan, we genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people and giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed and grow with us. We’re looking for someone with: Around 8+ years’ experience as a Geotechnical Engineer A practical mindset, with a strong grasp of construction sequencing, staging and site constraints Willingness to spend time on site to understand conditions, build relationships and refine designs Ideally, you will also have: CPEng (or equivalent) in Geotechnical Engineering, or be close to achieving it Experience in temporary works design and/or Tier 1 contractor experience Proficiency with GeoStudio or similar geotechnical analysis software Experience in complex ground conditions (soft ground, variable geology, groundwater) A track record of developing alternative designs that improve time, cost and risk outcomes We’re keen to hear from you if you: Enjoy working with site teams to find practical, buildable solutions, not just theoretical answers. Are open to mentoring and upskilling other engineers in the Civil Technical Team, particularly in geotechnical and ground engineering. Are keen to broaden your skills into other forms of temporary works design to meet project demand – happy to “lend a hand” beyond pure geotech when needed. Communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Creating, Connecting and caring for the community Our people regularly donate their time to local causes and initiatives, while at a regional and national level we provide financial support, skills and resources to a wide range of organisations that are strengthening our communities. Our focus aims to also reduce our impact on the environment, and regenerate healthy new ecosystems. We look to partner with others to lift the standards of our industry and show customers lower-impact, sustainable ways of delivering infrastructure. If this sounds like you, and you’re ready to take on complex geotechnical challenges while helping to grow our technical capability, we’d love to hear from you.
