ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in civil engineering from a recognized and ABET accredited university with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering
  • Must be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC within 4 years of hire date
  • Knowledge of soil mechanics, geology and basic civil and structural engineering
  • Exposure to foundation and retaining wall calculations during coursework
  • A working knowledge of AutoCAD and other drafting tools would be an asset
  • Strong proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Highly proactive with exceptional problem solving/analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks
    The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $85,000 annually.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training to join our geotechnical group on the west coast. We are looking for candidates who possess a desire to understand site characterization and geotechnical services to support a wide range of building and linear infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate is an Engineer-in-Training who desires to specialize in geotechnical engineering and has an excitement for civil construction projects and a passion to be outdoors. We are looking for someone with an engineering background and knowledge of geotechnical design.
Technical work in this role includes feasibility studies, engineering designs, preparation of construction drawings and specifications for various civil infrastructure and building projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in site inspections and condition assessments for ongoing construction projects
  • Carrying out geotechnical investigations including drilling and sampling of subsurface materials, geophysical surveys and site mapping
  • Performing geotechnical analysis including foundation, retaining wall and slope stability calculations for the design of excavations, pipelines, culverts, buildings and roadways
  • Preparation of geotechnical reports including the presentation of the findings, conclusions and recommendations for design based on the results of the investigation and analysis
  • Continual participation with the multi-discipline design team throughout the project to develop efficient and comprehensive designs
  • Coordinating the development of drawings and specifications pertaining to geotechnical aspects of the project
  • Continually monitor your schedule of tasks required to complete the project on time, on budget and on spec including hours to perform tasks and critical data required for performance against a schedule and budget the team sets for the project
  • Help keep project managers advised of all changes in scope of work and possibly prepare amendments to contracts for review and submission to client
  • Review shop drawings and contractor’s submittals
  • Providing responsive on-site geotechnical engineering services during construction such as subgrade verification and differing site conditions
  • Help maintain strong relationships with clients
