Coppersmith Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer IV (PE) on behalf of a leading engineering consultancy. This senior-level role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer with deep technical expertise, proven leadership ability, and extensive experience delivering complex geotechnical projects in urban environments.
Position Summary
As a Geotechnical Engineer IV (PE), you will lead and manage complex geotechnical investigations, deliver advanced design solutions, and provide technical leadership to a high-performing engineering team. You will serve as a subject-matter expert, guiding junior engineers, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring technical excellence across all stages of project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute advanced geotechnical site investigations, including soil/rock sampling, lab testing, and in-situ analysis.
- Produce comprehensive design reports and deliverables for foundations, earth retention, slope stability, and excavation support systems.
- Conduct geotechnical modeling and analysis using tools such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience, AutoCAD, or similar software.
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers, fostering technical development and ensuring quality deliverables.
- Oversee field and laboratory operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and technical accuracy.
- Collaborate with structural, civil, environmental, and construction teams to integrate geotechnical solutions into larger project designs.
- Advise clients and project managers on geotechnical risks, mitigation strategies, and best practices.
- Independently manage complex geotechnical projects, providing expert-level input with minimal oversight.
- Ensure all work adheres to local, state, federal regulations and industry standards.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
- 7+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, with a strong record of technical leadership.
- Expertise in geotechnical modeling, advanced foundation design, and field and lab testing protocols.
- Proficiency in software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience, and AutoCAD.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary collaboration and multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in urban infrastructure, excavation support, and underground projects, particularly those relevant to NYC environments.
