Earth Systems is currently seeking a Geotechnical Field / Lab ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Technician at our Pasadena, CA office. Qualifications: Minimum 1-3 years’ experience working in a geotechnical environment required. High School Diploma or equivalent. B.S. in Geology, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Science preferred, but not required. ACI certifications: Aggregate Testing Technician, Aggregate/Soils Base Testing Technician, Concrete Strength Testing Technician and Concrete-Field Testing Technician. Preferred but not required NICET: Construction Materials Testing: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils. Preferred but not required Caltrans: JTCP Soils and Aggregate; JTCP HMA I & II. Preferred but not required Nuclear gauge certification required. ICC Soils Special Inspector required. Los Angeles Deputy Grading Inspector. Preferred but not required DSA and AWS certifications. Preferred but not required Must be familiar with Microsoft programs. Math, analytical, and writing skills are required and must be willing to “learn by doing.” Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. A good work ethic, attention to detail, and a high level of personal integrity. Must have reliable transportation and a clean driving record. Duties and Responsibilities: Perform routine laboratory, field and soils tests including but not limited to maximum density, moisture, plasticity index, grain size analysis, direct shear, and other various soil tests. Perform routine laboratory tests on construction materials such as concrete, masonry, and steel. Record laboratory or field data on standard forms. Perform computations, plots data, digitize data. Perform equipment calibration. Perform routine maintenance of equipment and inventory. Uses CCRL/AMRL qualitative control references. Maintains a clean and orderly laboratory environment adhering to safety protocols and procedures. Maintains laboratory records and assigns tracking numbers for sample quality control. Fieldwork related to soils engineering and construction, including compaction testing of soils, aggregates, and asphalt Observation of grading activities and foundation construction, identification and sampling of construction materials, and special inspection of concrete, masonry, and steel. Record field data and prepare daily field reports and formal reports in accordance with Earth Systems’ report protocols and procedures. Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure project specifications are met. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. Assists in the coordination of field and laboratory work Operate and maintain field testing equipment, perform troubleshooting, and maintain calibration of equipment Demonstrate the company's safety behaviors by following safety protocols and promoting a safety culture among team members. The expected pay range for this position is $22-35 per hour. Exact rate is dependent on several factors such as experience, skills, education/certifications, and geographic location.
