JOB OVERVIEW

Telford Geotechnical Limited is currently seeking a full-time Materials Technician to join our expanding Geotechnical Engineering firm in Kamloops, British Columbia. This position involves conducting materials testing of soil in the field and laboratory and working in the field on a variety of small to large scale construction projects. Candidates with a Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma will be considered first.
The position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and considerable courtesy, tact, and diplomacy to ensure protocols, engineering standards, and procedures are adhered to on all projects. We are searching for an enthusiastic, hard-working individual to join our existing team.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must possess a valid class 5 BC driver’s licence and their own personal vehicle for work use. They must be willing to work outdoors with occasional travel outside of Kamloops and pass a criminal record check. Only those candidates fluent in English and legally able to work in Canada will be considered.
Applicants with experience in civil construction, foundation preparation and machinery operation will be prioritized. Previous work experience with a nuclear densometer and laboratory testing of soils is an asset. Responsibilities

The successful incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Field and laboratory testing of aggregates and soils
  • Density testing using a nuclear densometer
  • Assisting with construction supervision and field inspections
  • Communicating with staff and on-site personnel regarding testing schedules and results
  • Submitting reports of density testing and laboratory work in a timely manner
  • Preparing soil samples accurately
  • Logging test holes and test pits for geotechnical investigations
  • Other related duties
