REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current certificate of competence as Registered Nurse (RN) from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completed PIECES Learning and Development program
  • Completed DementiAbility Methods: The Montessori Way program
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA)
  • Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) Certification or Certificate in Mental Health or Gerontology or willingness to complete
  • Basic cardiac life support certification
  • Minimum of two years of progressive and current experience in Geriatric Mental Health Nursing including specialized skills in assessment of dementia, delirium, mental health and addictions
  • Demonstrated excellence in planning and delivery of education sessions to individuals or groups
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in the initiation, coordination of and participation in team/family conferences and clinical activities
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge and expertise in geriatrics which will be assessed through interview and testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Working knowledge of computer applications and software such as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the College of Nurses standards of practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning in nursing
  • Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
  • Bilingualism preferred (French/English)
