This role is responsible for accurately creating telecom construction drawings in a GIS environment, adhering to customer requirements and permit authority standards. As part of a collaborative team, the GIS Drafter I plays a critical role in turning field-collected data into accurate and detailed maps to support construction, permitting, and recordkeeping efforts. Requirements Drafting & Mapping · Perform communications construction drawings using GIS software (Esri/ArcGIS) · Redraw customer designs into GIS templates using established standards · Map existing utility lines and plan for utility relocations · Research and incorporate parcel data, easements, and landmarks · Prepare permit-ready maps to meet agency-specific standards Data Collection & Communication · Work closely with field collectors to confirm project details · Load projects into ArcGIS and set up job boundaries · Understand telecom construction data and terminology · Communicate clearly with collectors and engineers to clarify design needs GIS Database Management · Perform feature creation, attribution, and updates within datasets · Apply internal QA/QC standards to ensure high-quality submissions · Interpret new build, as-built drawings, and engineering plans for conversion into GIS · Update Smartsheet or similar tools to track mapping progress Developmental Learning · Understand internal processes for map handoffs, documentation, and tracking · Gain experience with various business units (Aerial, Underground, BAU, & 10G) · Participate in basic permit research and learn agency-specific requirements · Ride along with field collection teams to observe real-world asset gathering Requirements · Associate's degree or equivalent experience (2+ years in telecom or GIS) · Familiarity with ArcGIS, Esri, 3GIS, or similar software · Strong computer skills (Excel, Smartsheet, ArcTools, etc.) · Ability to interpret plat maps, parcel data, and basic telecom layouts · In-office presence required (non-remote role) · Monday–Friday schedule with flexibility for deadline-driven evenings/weekends
