The Department of Municipal Affairs is dedicated to working with municipalities to build healthy, vibrant and safe communities throughout Nova Scotia. Municipal Affairs provides programs, grants and funding opportunities for municipalities and community groups. The Department also provides services and guidance to municipalities in many areas, including land use planning, budget planning and finance, infrastructure development policy and program development.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

You will contribute to the success of this critical initiative by:

  • Supporting the collection and maintenance of spatial data for flood mapping
  • Contributing to multiple concurrent projects while adhering to Federal and Provincial data and meta data requirements
  • Collaborating with experts and the Project Lead and Program Manager to update and refine the Municipal Flood Line Mapping Documents
  • Reviewing project deliverables to ensure they align with the requirements
  • Developing GIS applications in conjunction with GeoNova to store and disseminate data to stakeholders and the public

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

You bring technical expertise and have graduated from an approved GIS technical school in the field of GIS. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

You must demonstrate

  • Experience working on complex projects and managing large volumes of spatial data
  • Problem-solving and expertise in geospatial processing
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in managing data and metadata

Assets include

  • Experience in environmental-related projects, particularly in hazard mapping
  • Knowledge of municipal and/or provincial government structures
  • Experience with developing story maps and other tools designed for spatial data communication
