This position supports the work of the Y—a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility—by ensuring smooth, safe, and member-focused operations when the Executive Director is not on site. As a strategic partner to branch leadership, the Operations Director oversees Membership and Youth & Family operations, supports staff performance, and responds to emergent situations with confidence and professionalism. This is an ideal opportunity for a mission-driven leader who’s passionate about community engagement, team development, and operational excellence. It offers hands-on experience in branch-level leadership and prepares candidates for future roles such as Branch Executive Director. KEY RESPONSIBLILITES: Strategic & Operational Leadership Serve as the primary operational leader, ensuring smooth, efficient, and mission-aligned branch operations. Collaborate with the Executive Director on strategic planning, budgeting, and organizational development. Lead cross-functional initiatives that drive member satisfaction, retention, and community impact. Membership & Program Engagement Oversee the full member lifecycle—from acquisition and onboarding to engagement and retention in both Glens Falls and Chestertown. Develop and implement innovative strategies to grow membership and deepen member involvement and engagement. Ensure high-quality service delivery across all touchpoints, including tours, front desk, and Youth & Family integration. Team Leadership & Staff Development Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor department leaders and frontline staff. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Conduct regular performance evaluations and coaching sessions using association tools and metrics. Financial & Administrative Oversight Manage departmental budgets and contribute to branch-wide financial planning. Monitor key performance indicators and use data to inform decisions and improve outcomes. Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, safety standards, and operational procedures. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in human services, business, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience, ideally in a nonprofit or YMCA setting. Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and drive strategic outcomes. Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Experience in staff supervision, volunteer coordination, and program development. Ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse populations. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
