What We’re Looking For We’re looking for a Global Cook who is passionate about food quality, safety, teamwork, and customer service. In this role, you will prepare menu items, maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, and support daily operations in a fast-paced dining setting. Duties & Responsibilities of All KU Memorial Union Positions Adhere to University and KU Memorial Union policies and procedures. Always exhibit professional decorum while representing the KU Memorial Unions and the University. What You’ll Do Food Preparation & Quality Prepare, cook, and properly store food according to recipes, supervisor direction, and all food safety regulations. Maintain consistency and quality by following recipes precisely. Practice a “clean as you go” approach to keep your work area organized. Food Safety & Sanitation Adhere strictly to safe food handling practices, including taking and logging temperatures, using clean and sanitized tools, and following proper hygiene standards. Store food correctly by covering, labeling, dating, and placing items in designated storage areas. Customer Service Deliver excellent guest experiences by anticipating needs and addressing concerns promptly. Contribute to a welcoming dining environment that encourages customer satisfaction and repeat visits. Communication Address questions or concerns with your assigned supervisor in a timely and respectful manner. Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers, both verbally and in writing. Teamwork & Cooperation Foster positive relationships with coworkers and customers. Collaborate effectively on shared tasks and assist team members as needed. Versatility & Support Assist in other work areas or cover additional stations when needed, particularly during staff absences. Participate in stocking and general cleaning tasks to support overall kitchen and dining area upkeep. Customer Interaction Engage with customers and coworkers in a friendly, professional manner. Report and follow up on customer concerns with supervisory staff. What’s Required to Be Considered High School diploma or GED equivalent. At least one year of experience in commercial food service preparation and handling. The Ideal Candidate Previous food service experience in a college or institutional setting. ServSafe certification. Physical Requirements This position requires stooping, bending, extensive walking, standing for long periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to follow all food safety and sanitation standards.
