Job Title: Global Head of Environmental, Health & Safety

SUMMARY:

The Global Head of Environmental, Health & Safety is responsible for the overall strategic leadership, development, and implementation of the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs across the company’s global operations. This includes creating and executing EHS strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, promoting a culture of safety, and driving environmental sustainability initiatives. The role is critical in safeguarding the health and well-being of employees, contractors, and communities while minimizing the company’s environmental impact.
Working with the Global COO they foster a culture of Safety that is upheld by the entire organization.
As a key member of the Operations Leadership Team (OLT) they are the Global Business Process Owner (GBPO) for all processes and the EH&S policies used at each business location. They are responsible for developing these processes, maintaining compliance with them, and continually improving on them.
They will be part of a team that will collectively work on creating a ‘Great Place to Work’ through a culture of continuous improvement, safe working and open dialogue.

Responsibilities: As Global Head of Environmental, Health & Safety you will:

  • Create and sustain a culture that is aligned to United Safety PASSION values, by role-modelling behaviors, motivating, encouraging and recognizing the contribution of Team Members.
  • Lead the EHS function across all regions to ensure consistent standards and practices worldwide.
  • Set and monitor EHS performance targets, KPIs, and goals that drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate EHS priorities into the overall corporate strategy and decision-making.
  • Influence and guide the development of EHS policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, national, and international EHS regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Implement EHS risk management programs, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation plans.
  • Provide direction for EHS audits, inspections, and investigations, and ensure prompt corrective actions are taken.
  • Monitor and report on EHS compliance, including overseeing internal and external audits and inspections.
  • Establish and manage EHS performance tracking systems and metrics to evaluate safety and environmental performance.
  • Champion incident reporting and investigation systems, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of training programs aimed at fostering a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Manage the EHS budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions for EHS initiatives while maintaining safety and environmental standards.
  • Foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across the organization.
  • Engage and collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, engineering, HR) to embed EHS principles into day-to-day business practices.
  • Serve as the company’s spokesperson on EHS-related matters, representing the organization to external regulatory bodies, industry groups, and the public.
  • Lead incident response efforts, providing guidance during crisis situations to mitigate impacts on people, the environment, and business operations.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at reducing the company’s environmental footprint, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable resource management.
  • Ensure the company’s environmental programs comply with sustainability goals and international environmental standards.
  • Lead the development and reporting of sustainability initiatives, including greenhouse gas emissions reduction and climate change adaptation strategies.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a global EHS team, ensuring high levels of competency and professional growth.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including employees, regulators, industry groups, and contractors.
  • Cultivate a high-performing, safety-conscious workforce by encouraging continuous learning, feedback, and the sharing of best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
