Description:
We are seeking a Global Head of Legal AI Research to lead our efforts in advancing the application of AI in our product offering for GRC of AI. This role will bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI technologies and the complex world of legal information, driving forward our mission to revolutionise how AI GRC is conducted and applied globally. The successful candidate will lead a team of junior researchers, align legal AI research initiatives with commercial goals, and work closely with the KomplyAi technology team to develop customer-focused AI GRC products.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor or higher qualification in law
· Minimum 12 months’ experience in legal research in the areas of technology law
· Track record of producing research papers, Q&A documents, thought leadership articles and the like on AI and legal compliance topics
· Experience in producing documents (reports, research, guidelines etc.) which provide relevant actionable content for commercial application across diverse sectors
· Experience developing datasets/repositories, legal taxonomies, and ontologies for AI laws to support the training of AI models
SKILLS:
· Exceptional legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to assess and synthesise complex regulatory and statutory requirements into documents providing clear, actionable insights
· Advanced knowledge of AI ethics, bias mitigation, data protection, and governance practices across multiple jurisdictions
· Demonstrated understanding of AI-related legislation, regulatory compliance, and risk management frameworks in both Australian and international contexts
· Demonstrated strong understanding of AI concepts and terminology, including machine learning, data science, and algorithmic processes, with the ability to apply this knowledge in relevant contexts
· Demonstrated understanding of ISO AI management and cybersecurity standards, gained through courses, certifications, or equivalent efforts, strongly preferred
· Proven ability to translate legal principles into actionable product features and business strategies
· Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical audiences
· Leadership and project management capabilities, particularly in leading multidisciplinary teams
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $75,000.00 per year

Responsibilities:
· Conduct detailed legal analysis of statutory instruments, case law, and regulatory guidelines relevant to AI systems and their compliance
· Draft clear and actionable reports, whitepapers, and product specifications based on legal research findings
· Provide strategic advice on embedding regulatory requirements, such as those related to bias mitigation and ethical AI practices, into the organization’s products
· Lead the creation and refinement of training datasets for AI models, ensuring compliance with data protection laws such as GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and the Australian Privacy Act
· Collaborate with external legal experts and stakeholders to validate research outcomes and maintain credibility in AI compliance solutions
· Actively contribute to the company’s innovation pipeline by identifying emerging legal issues and opportunities for AI applications in governance, risk, and compliance
· Manage project timelines and ensure deliverables align with both regulatory requirements and commercial objectives
