The Global Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking an instructor to teach Introduction to Global Studies for the Governor’s School for Global and International Studies from June 1 - July 31, 2025.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in International Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, History, or a related field.
  • Teaching or research experience in global and transnational issues.
  • Previous experience working with high school students is preferred.

Responsibilities

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL GOVERNOR SCHOOL INSTRUCTORS

  • Curriculum Design & Delivery
  • Design and implement a rigorous, engaging, and age-appropriate curriculum for high-achieving high school students.
  • Develop daily lesson plans that promote critical thinking, global awareness, and subject-specific skills.
  • Align instruction with the interdisciplinary focus of the Governor’s School and the values of global education
  • Instructional Duties
  • Deliver content through lectures, interactive discussions, group work, simulations, and project-based learning.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to students on their participation and performance.
  • Integrate writing, research, and presentation assignments into the course.
  • Assessment & Evaluation
  • Develop rubrics and evaluate student work in a timely and constructive manner.
  • Track attendance and participation
  • Submit final grades as required.
  • Student Engagement & Mentoring
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and intellectually stimulating classroom environment.
  • Serve as an academic mentor and role model.
  • Attend and support select extracurricular or evening events to build community.
  • Collaboration & Administration
  • Coordinate with other faculty and program staff on shared expectations and themes.
  • Attend pre-program orientation and faculty meetings.
  • Submit final course syllabi, student evaluations, and participation in post-program debriefs.

INTRO TO GLOBAL STUDIES INSTRUCTOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Introduce students to foundational concepts in global studies, including globalization, global governance, migration, inequality, global health, and sustainability.
  • Guide students in developing global awareness through case studies, current events, and interdisciplinary readings.Minimum Qualifications
