OVERVIEW

FMC Corporation is a global leader in agrochemical innovation. We are seeking a Global R&D Manager to lead the Discovery Biology, Insect and Nematode Control Group at our Stine Research Center in Newark, Delaware. This role is central to advancing the discovery of novel insecticidal and nematocidal active ingredients.
The successful candidate will bring deep scientific expertise in entomology, nematology, or crop protection, along with a strong track record of innovation and leadership in insecticide research. Possessing strong team leadership capabilities, the incumbent will oversee a dynamic insect and nematode control team, guide experimental design and execution across lab, greenhouse, and field studies, and collaborate cross-functionally. The Global R&D Manager prioritizes projects and resources, participates in technical discussions and decisions involving greenhouse and field biology testing, chemical structure-activity relationships, mode-of-action studies, regulatory, and analyses of environmental properties of experimental compounds.
As part of the Discovery Leadership Team, the Global R&D Manager will shape strategic research priorities, manage cross-discipline project teams, and ensure scientific excellence, safety, and alignment with FMC’s global R&D goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. (with postdoctoral experience preferred) in Entomology, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of industrial experience in insecticide discovery or insecticide product development post-Ph.D.
  • Proven expertise in insect management strategies, global insect control targets, practices and products, protocol development, and crop protection systems.
  • Strong track record of leading scientific teams and managing complex research portfolios.
Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Lead the Discovery Biology, Insect and Nematode Control Group to deliver commercially viable insecticide candidates.
  • Define research goals and align team priorities with FMC’s global R&D strategy.
  • Contribute to long-term research strategies that support FMC’s discovery pipeline.
  • Research & Innovation:
  • Oversee design and execution of laboratory, greenhouse, and field studies.
  • Champion the development and implementation of novel bioassays and screening tools.
  • Guide evaluation of structure-activity relationships, mode of action studies, and early safety/environmental profiling.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Partner with internal teams (e.g., Chemistry, Analytical, Toxicology, Investigative Sciences, Field Development, Global Product Management) to align scientific progress with business needs.
  • Team Management:
  • Manage and mentor a team of 12–16 scientists, including Principle Investigators and Associate Scientists.
  • Hire and develop talent, manage performance, and plan workloads to support team success.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Process & Quality Excellence:
  • Champion best practices in experimental design, data integrity, and lab/field operations.
  • Lead development and implementation of novel bioassays and screening tools.
  • Ensure scientific rigor and timely delivery of project milestones.
  • External Engagement:
  • Build and manage a global network of external research collaborators and academic partners to advance discovery initiatives.
  • Compliance & Safety:
  • Foster a culture of safety, ensuring adherence to FMC’s safety policies and commitment to zero incidents.
