Description

The Athletic Coach is responsible for developing and leading athletic programs, guiding athletes to achieve their full potential, and promoting teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. This role involves planning practices, overseeing competitions, evaluating athletes’ performance, and ensuring safety and compliance with PIAA league and organizational rules.

Responsibilities
  1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures, particularly those related to students, discipline, health and wellness, discrimination, extra-curricular activities, bullying, and expectations of employees. Complies with guidance and rules related to the specific position held, including those promulgated by the District or by outside governing organizations or organizations hosting interscholastic, tournament or other competitive events.
  2. Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
  3. Plans and sets-up activities, practices and games.
  4. Insures a fully qualified coach, who has complied with all District, PIAA and state law requirements that are a prerequisite to coaching, is present at all practices and games. Works with the Athletic Director in preparing practice and game schedules.
  5. Develops appropriate training programs and practice schedules.
  6. Ensures proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms and updated inventories, in accordance with District practices and expectations.
  7. Travels with student athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
  8. Adheres to all financial policies of the District in regard to the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
  9. Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
  10. Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner and ensures that all proper form(s) (e.g., insurance, attendance, medical) have been obtained and are current.
  11. Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles, within authority of this position. Reports concerns or discusses disciplinary issues with supervisor as appropriate. Makes appropriate disciplinary referrals in accordance with District policies and procedures.
  12. Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games or events and ensures appropriate behavior until last player leaves. For home games, practices or events, checks and secures all offices, storage rooms, outside doors, locker rooms and all lights after last player leaves each game, practice or event.
  13. Consults with Athletic Director regarding any off-season training programs.
