Position Title: Starter/ Golf Marshal Department: Golf Shop Reports To: Head Golf Professional, Pro Shop Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Seasonal, Part Time Summary of Position This position is responsible for the day to day operation of play on the golf course to ensure a quality experience for guests. Duties include, but are not limited to, enforcing rules and policies, coordinate play off the first tee, monitor pace of play and assist with golf activities and equipment. This is a tipped position on a limited basis, so gratuities may be earned from our customers for outstanding customer service. Golf benefits (time restricted) and driving range benefits are also available. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Coordinate golf course activities with Pro Shop and outside service. * Greet guests and coordinate tee times, check receipts and tee sheet. * Inform guests of the layout of course and rules and regulations. * Ensure putting green is clean and orderly. * When able, starter will act as marshal when no marshals are on duty. * Ensure starter/marshal cart is equipped radio, pencils, score cards, first aid supplies and in safe working condition. * Assist cart barn staff in moving carts in the morning and evening. * Monitor and maintain pace of play, enforce course policies, course etiquette and alcohol policies. * Monitor guests to make sure no private coolers or outside alcohol is brought on property. * Assist lost players and walkers, including guiding walkers off of course to walking path. * Maintain appearance of course by gathering loose debris, filling ball marks with sand, etc… * Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a clean and safe environment for guests. Requirements (Skills/Abilities): * Basic knowledge and understanding of typical golf course procedures. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to work independently or with a team. * Be familiar with the company’s handbook. * Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions * Have and maintain a valid drivers’ license. * Present a positive and professional image. * Ability to take direction and accept corrections. * Superior work ethic with reliable and predictable attendance. * Work early mornings, weekends or long shifts if necessary. Physical Requirements: * Must be able to walk and stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. * Must be able to sit for an extended period of time. * Must be able to bend and twist at the waist on a regular basis. * Must be able to reach at, above and below shoulder height. * Must be able to grasp, push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis. * Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. * Must possess sufficient motor skills to operate carts and other equipment as required.
