Office Work Model: Hybrid — In-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; remote Monday and Friday The Government Relations intern will assist with the Government Relations team’s day-to-day functions and gain hands-on experience in how Congress operates, how NRF advocates on our top policy issues, and how we engage with members of Congress and their staffs. Essential Functions Track and research legislative developments, federal and state policy issues, and government affairs initiatives Track, schedule and participate in organizing legislative visits Shadow NRF policy experts to Capitol Hill meetings and committee meetings Assist with the coordination of meetings, conferences, and events, including logistics planning, preparing materials, and compiling notes Support the planning and execution of NRF’s premier advocacy event Perform other duties as assigned Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Current rising junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science or related field Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently with limited supervision High level of professionalism Preferred Qualifications: Prior internship or work experience in government, public policy, or advocacy Familiarity with the legislative process Strong interpersonal skills and intellectual curiosity Application Deadline: Must apply by February 27, 2026, for consideration. Responsibilities
The intern will assist the Government Relations team with daily functions, gaining experience in congressional operations, NRF policy advocacy, and engagement with members of Congress and their staff. Essential duties include tracking legislative developments, scheduling visits, shadowing policy experts in meetings, and supporting event coordination.
