  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience in government affairs, legislative support, communications, or public policy—such as:
  • Legislative agency or staff roles
  • Policy and communications roles
  • Economic development related staff roles
  • Executive agency or staff roles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills—able to synthesize complex issues simply and persuasively.
  • Effective interpersonal skills—comfortable interacting with lawmakers, staffers and clients.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred: Experience in grassroots initiatives, coalition-building, economic development, or media relations.

Responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

We seek an established Government Relations Consultant to support our lobbying and policy advocacy efforts in Mississippi. This position will play a key role in legislative tracking, stakeholder engagement, policy research, and communications support, working closely with our team and clients to shape strategies that ensure successful outcomes. The salary will be based on experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Legislative Monitoring & Analysis
  • Track bills, regulatory developments, and political trends in assigned jurisdictions.
  • Analyze implications for clients and draft concise briefs to inform decision-making.
  • Client Strategy Support
  • Collaborate with senior team members to develop targeted advocacy campaigns and action plans.
  • Stakeholder & Coalition Engagement
  • Identify and engage with legislators, agency officials, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist in organizing or attending coalition meetings, public hearings, and advocacy events.
  • Communications & Messaging
  • Draft talking points, policy memos, social media drafts, and press communications.
  • Support media preparedness and messaging coordination in campaign or issue contexts.
