The following are the core responsibilities of the GPA. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels. You will work within your capabilities and this new role will be developed. The duties may include: Arrange appointments, tests and follow up appointments for patients Arrange referrals on behalf of the GP both internally (to other clinicians or care coordinators/social prescribers/health and wellbeing coaches) or externally (to the hospital or community clinics) Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc Complete simple clinical observations/investigations as directed, such as dipstick urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs, phlebotomy etc. Help the GP liaise with external agencies (such as arranging admissions so the GP can continue with their consultations) Sorting clinical post and prioritising for the GP Extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding this to patient notes Supporting with QOF reviews Explaining and promoting healthy lifestyle choice
