Position Overview and Responsibilities Grade 6 math/science faculty teach two sections of mathematics and two sections of science each day, focusing on pre-algebra topics and inquiry-based science (physical, life, and earth science). Faculty also serve as advisors to a group of students on their grade-level team. The Middle School program of study can be found here on our website. Skills and Competencies We are particularly interested in candidates with demonstrated effectiveness in interdisciplinary teaching, using technology as a vehicle for learning gains. Requirements Education and Experience A minimum of 1-3 years of teaching late elementary or middle school mathematics or science (or applicable practicum experience). A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in science, mathematics, or a related field. Ability to work effectively with a diversity of learning styles and learners. Physical Requirements (with or without accommodations): Standing/sitting for long periods of time. Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone. Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, and perform first aid and CPR. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision. All members of the faculty are expected to give witness to our mission at St. John’s.
