About the role
We're looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Accountant / Finance Officer to join our team in Mackay. Working as part of the Finance team, you'll gain practical experience across a broad range of accounting and finance activities while developing your technical skills and understanding of a growing business. This is a hands-on and varied role with exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, month-end accounting, reporting and financial processes. You'll work alongside experienced finance professionals and have the opportunity to progressively take on greater responsibility as your skills and experience develop.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with invoice processing, supplier and customer account enquiries, reconciliations and other AP and AR activities
- Support the day-to-day Finance function, including data entry, maintaining financial records and responding to internal and external enquiries
- Assist with month-end activities, including journals, accruals, reconciliations and preparation of supporting information
- Assist with general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies with support from the Finance team
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial and management reports and supporting schedules
- Provide assistance with payroll processing, reconciliations and administration as required
- Assist with project costing, cost allocation and financial information to support project and operational reporting
- Assist with the preparation and reconciliation of information required for BAS, Fuel Tax Credits, Payroll Tax, TPAR, FBT and other statutory obligations
- Support the ongoing development and improvement of finance processes, procedures and systems
- Work collaboratively with the Finance team and wider business, progressively building your knowledge and taking on additional responsibilities as your experience develops
About you
- A completed or near-completed qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline, or relevant finance experience
- Some previous experience in an accounts, finance or administration environment would be advantageous but is not essential
- Good numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Excel and an ability to learn new systems
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities
