JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a motivated school leaver to join our expanding team in Glasgow working towards an honours degree in civil engineering. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in mathematics and science. This role involves working on diverse projects in civil engineering and structural engineering with an emphasis on marine design work, ensuring that all designs meet regulatory standards and client specifications.
You will be working with chartered engineers and architects; quantity surveyors; technicians and project managers in a dynamic environment.
Arch Henderson will support a fully funded BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering Graduate Apprenticeship with either Strathclyde University or Glasgow Caledonian University. This program allows apprentices to “work, earn, and learn,” combining academic study with on-the-job experience. It’s a pathway to becoming a professionally qualified engineer, with accreditation from the Joint Board of Moderators.
Training is provided on a day release basis with time provided for preparation for examinations where required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Typically applicants will have 4 Highers (minimum BBCC grades) including Maths and a Science or Technology or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Strong mathematical skills for calculations related to engineering designs.
  • Good communication skills for collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality assurance in all work produced.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop civil engineering projects, including piers, ports, ferry terminals, shipyards, offshore wind and drainage defence structures.
  • Utilise design software, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D, to create detailed schematics and plans.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineers to ensure project feasibility and compliance.
  • Perform design calculations using various software packages.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for project submissions.
  • Oversee construction activities to ensure adherence to designs and specifications.
  • Engage in project management tasks, including scheduling and resource allocation.
