Description:

ABOUT US

National Grid is at the heart of the UK energy network keeping people connected and society moving. We develop, own and maintain the physical infrastructure, such as pylons and cables needed to move the electricity generated from windfarms and power sources around the country. Every time a phone is plugged in, or a switch is turned on, we’ve played a part, connecting you to the electricity you need - and we’re leading the transformation towards a greener future, dreaming bigger to bring a more affordable energy future to everyone.
But it’s our people that provide our true superpower. They drive and sustain our growth, their unique differences only making us stronger. But it’s no small feat – and we need the best to join us in our mission. So, join us and power the future of energy.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Infrastructure is a part of National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and is responsible for delivering 17 major new projects to connect more clean, low-carbon power to the transmission network in England and Wales. These projects, delivered under the regulator’s Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework, play a vital part in achieving the UK Government’s ambition of connecting 50GW of offshore wind by 2030.

The Investment Strategy team is pivotal to the early stages of Strategic Infrastructure’s work. We shape the early development of strategically important, complex projects and help shape the policy and regulatory environment to fit the needs of these projects. By doing this we enable the business area to deliver the right infrastructure projects at the right time to benefit society and enable the move to Net Zero.

  • How do we ensure the construction of the appropriate infrastructure to achieve net zero as rapidly as possible by evaluating options and incorporating societal impact during project development.
  • How do we adopt innovative approaches to expedite project completion, enabling efficient progress towards net zero.
  • How do we formulate robust investment cases for projects, facilitating informed decision-making and securing necessary resources to advance infrastructure development in line with net zero objectives.

In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams to gather and analyze relevant information for investment case development. You will synthesize inputs and provide actionable insights and recommendations on specific issues. Additionally, you will collect data on the societal impact of projects and assist in developing methodologies to include societal benefits in Cost Benefit Analysis. You will consider the necessary regulatory, policy, planning, and other frameworks to support the delivery of strategic infrastructure projects. Supporting the Investment Case Manager, you will have opportunities to network, learn, and engage with subject matter experts across various domains to inform your analysis and investment case development.
