PERSON SPECIFICATIONESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A degree (BEng or MEng) in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Strong academic background with a solid understanding of civil engineering principles and design methods.
  • Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD, and familiarity with tools like Civil 3D, Revit, or MicroDrainage is advantageous.
  • Awareness of UK engineering standards (e.g. Eurocodes, BS EN, CDM Regulations).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear and concise technical documents.
  • Enthusiastic and proactive approach, with a willingness to learn and develop professionally.
  • Eligible to work towards chartership (CEng) via the ICE, IStructE, or equivalent institution.
Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To support the delivery of civil engineering design work across infrastructure and energy projects, working as part of a multidisciplinary design team. This entry-level role provides a strong foundation in design principles, standards, and tools, offering excellent opportunities for professional development and chartership progression.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Including but not limited to:

  • Assist in the preparation of civil design calculations, drawings, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Contribute to the design of civil infrastructure such as foundations, earthworks, drainage systems, access roads, and substations.
  • Support the development of engineering solutions that are safe, sustainable, and cost-effective, in line with project and client requirements.
  • Work with 2D and 3D design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit to produce models and drawings.
  • Help prepare technical reports, schedules, and documentation for internal review and client submission.
  • Ensure design activities comply with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry regulations, including CDM 2015.
  • Participate in site visits, surveys, and inspections to support design development and feasibility assessments.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (e.g. structural, electrical, geotechnical) as part of coordinated project delivery.
  • Engage in technical meetings, design reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions to build design competence.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and innovation.
