Our client, a leading provider of integrated highways management, is seeking a Graduate Engineer - Development Management.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated graduate to join the Development Management team supporting Essex Highways in partnership with Essex County Council.
You will play a key role in the technical assurance of developer-led highway schemes, ensuring that new and improved infrastructure is adoptable and consistent with County Council policy. This position is ideally suited to an early-career engineer looking to develop their skills in a high-performing team with hands-on exposure to highway planning and delivery.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the technical review of developer highway designs, ensuring compliance with planning conditions and policy requirements.
  • Assist with local planning consultations and provide technical input where required.
  • Attend meetings and respond to on-site queries with a timely, solution-focused approach.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including district councils and developers.
  • Contribute to the preparation and progression of Section 38 and 278 legal agreements.
  • Maintain visibility of programme delivery through effective coordination with stakeholders.
  • Promote Health & Safety in all activities, working to minimise risks and implement best practice.
  • Provide support to Senior Engineers and the wider service as required.
  • Carry out additional duties in line with the needs of the role.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

  • HNC/Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline), or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Full UK driving licence (to undertake site visits and inspections).

Desirable:

  • Adaptability: Able to quickly learn new skills and respond to varying project needs.
  • Positive Attitude: Demonstrates enthusiasm, initiative, and willingness to learn.
  • Proactivity: Takes ownership and contributes solutions independently.
