Description

Due to an increase in workloads, Richard Jackson Ltd have a number of exciting opportunities to join of Geotechnical team, from graduate to senior level roles.

KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree qualified to a minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in Geology, Geography, Civil Engineering or related subject at 2:1 or above (predicted or attained);
  • An MEng or Masters in a Geotechnics or Environmental based course (desirable but not essential)
  • More experienced applicants should have prior experience in a similar role with 2-3+years’ / 5+ years experience;
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills;
  • Enthusiasm for a career in Geotechnical Engineering/Geo-environmental consultancy underpinned through an understanding of our sector and work and a willingness to learn and develop skills;
  • Be dedicated to the delivery of projects, and the development of the team and business as a whole;
  • Be planned and organised in your approach to work and meeting deadlines
  • Be flexible to the needs of the business, and changes to project plans
  • Hold a UK drivers’ licence or equivalent (essential)
  • Access to own vehicle is desirable but not essential.
Responsibilities

ROLES:

  • Graduate Geotechnical Engineer
  • Geotechnical/Geo-Environmental Engineer (2-5 years’ experience)
  • Senior Geotechnical/Geo-Environmental Engineer (5+ years’ experience)
    Roles are available in both out Colchester and Cambridge offices, with other locations considered for suitable candidates at a Senior level.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

These will vary depending on the role applied for, with training provided appropriate to the level of the role:

  • Graduates will undertake monitoring and surveys and supervise site investigations involving a variety of techniques, soil and rock logging. They will assist in the preparation of technical reports; factual and interpretative, and undertake design calculations for a range of engineering scenarios;
  • Engineers and senior engineers will additionally be responsible for the design, and organisation of geotechnical and geo-environmental investigations. They should be experienced in the preparation of technical reports with senior engineers having geotechnical design experience including foundations, retaining walls, slope stability assessment and earthworks design;
  • Senior engineers will be responsible for project management. They will have an ability to self-check work and technically review works by others and will be involved in the mentoring and management of more junior team members;
  • Client and contractor liaison and client care of internal and external clients;
  • Senior engineers should be commercially aware and will be involved in the preparation of fee quotations. For the right candidate there is an option for involvement in some marketing and business development activities;
