Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Hydrogeologist to join our team in Shrewsbury or Birmingham , but we can consider other locations too with offices across the country.

As a graduate hydrogeologist, you will be part of the Minerals and Resources team within the Energy group. You will have direct involvement in the water related challenges faced by clients in the quarrying and mining sector (including quarry and landfill operators) in the UK. The team deliver a wide range of services via a cradle to grave approach throughout the site lifecycle and some examples of challenges include:

  • Collection, management and interpretation of data from a wide range of sources, including field investigations.
  • Development of conceptual site models.
  • Preparation of hydrogeological impact assessments to identify potential impacts on the water environment and appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Production of water monitoring schemes to ensure compliance with planning permissions and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting applications for abstraction licences and environmental permits for discharge activities.
  • Preparation of hydrogeological risk assessments using bespoke software to assess the potential risk to the water environment from landfill operation or deposit of waste on land as a recovery operation.
  • Supporting the Hydrology team with flood risk assessments and drainage strategies for our clients.

As a member of our Minerals and Resources team, your role will involve providing technical support to the project team by carrying out field work, data management and analysis, and high-quality report writing related to services in minerals extraction, waste management and land restoration for regulators or private clients. Your role will also work closely with other teams within the business such as the Hydrology team, the Environmental Permitting team, and the Water team. Therefore, the role offers great and varied career development opportunities.
Examples of work carried out by graduates in the current team include data management using EQuIS (database), annual environmental monitoring reporting, collecting and collating field hydrometric and water quality data, processing data in Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS, input to hydrogeological impact and risk assessments, and so much more.
