JOB DESCRIPTION
The company are looking for engineering graduates (or comparable qualifications) who are keen to learn and develop their engineering and software development and automation skills, working within a wide variety of engineering environments, products and systems.
The company will provide a structured training program to develop candidates’ skillsets so they can become well rounded engineers. Engineers will work closely with Design, Commissioning and Sales departments to derive automation/custom software specifications, which they will then develop and test.
Candidates are expected to have a strong engineering (electrical/control systems) background and Windows based coding experience (ideally C# or Visual Basic), allowing development of new code, and modification of existing code for bespoke customer applications and core products. Some hands-on electrical experience may also be required.
Responsibilities (Given experience)
Developing/modifying C# control software using the Visual Studio and CADET API
Supporting legacy systems in VB6
Supporting worldwide customers and engineers with new and existing systems remotely for fault finding and integrating new functionality. Some on site work will also be required.
Developing and supporting core product software and giving input into hardware design
Interfacing to 3rd party equipment for integration within the CADET environment, using C# language.
Experience working with of protocols such as Ethernet, Serial, Ethercat, CAN, Profibus, AK protocol (over Ethernet/Serial) is useful
Developing automation sequences and tests using standard CADET editor tools
Analysing engineering systems to advise the best methods of automation
Analysing post-test diagnostics logs to advise fault rectifications (software, electrical and mechanical) within complex engineering systems
Work with design engineers to advise on requirements of new systems
Work with Commissioning engineers and project/site managers to achieve sign off from the customer.
Source code management via SourceTree, BitBucket and Jira
Documenting solutions and producing software manuals
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
Engineering background with good fault-finding abilities and abilities to pick up new concepts quickly, both electrically and mechanically
Logical thinking, self-driven, proactive individual with good time management and communication skills (written and verbal)
Good understanding of C# and Visual Studio (experience with other languages also considered)
Ideally suited to a joint electrical and mechanical/robotic/Mechatronics/Automation engineering degree
Happy to occasionally work at customer sites as necessary; this could include overseas travel
Full UK driving licence and able to achieve adequate and appropriate business insurance (generally requires having held a full licence for 1+ years)
